Indian Folk and Bollywood Dance

The Chitrahar Cultural Academy – a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization – is dedicated to promoting South Asian culture and diversity, and facilitating cross-cultural understanding through the performing arts.

We strive to foster conversation on the impact of the South Asian Diaspora on the global community.  Through these efforts, we also hope to educate young South Asian Americans about their heritage and offer examples of how to simultaneously maintain their American and South Asian identities.

In years past, the Chitrahar Cultural Academy has sponsored performing artists from the sub-continent – locally hosting South Asian musical, dance or theatrical programs for the Chicago and Midwest area.  From 1984 - 2006 we also held Chitrahar Night, an annual presentation of South Asian culture. Chitrahar Night was a unique presentation of music, food, fashion, and South Asian dance, during which young artists, performers and community leaders came together to celebrate our progress and strengthen our community through cultural awareness and education.

Today, we bring all of these incredible experiences to our dance sessions. We offer Indian Bollywood, Bhangra and other Folk dance classes at the Menomonee Club and the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago.  Please visit our Classes page for more details and to register.
